This practical one-day workshop based on Jon Reed’s book Get Up to Speed with Online Marketing will give you a solid foundation in online marketing, with a focus on social media. You will soon be up and running with a marketing plan and social media such as blogs, Facebook pages and Twitter accounts that you’ll create during the day. Also available in-house.
Blogging in a Day
Blogging is the essential starting point for your social media marketing. Whether you want to start a new blog or improve your existing one, this practical one-day workshop will help you with the technicalities and strategies required. It covers how to set up your blog using WordPress, what to write, and how to manage, market and monetize your blog. Also available in-house.
Market Your Book Online
People buy books online, so it is essential that they are marketed there. Go beyond your company or author website by reaching readers where they spend much of their time online: on social media. Using examples from the publishing industry, this course for publishers and authors covers the key tools, approaches and strategies you need. Also available in-house.
In-house only. A hands-on one-day workshop run for clients such as Cambridge University Press. In small groups of 3-4, participants plan, film, edit and output a video during the day – learning valuable skills along the way that they can apply to e.g. author videos. Needs to be run in a room with at least one computer with Adobe Premier Elements installed per production team. Cameras and other filming equipment supplied.
Social Media for Authors
In-house only. Are you a publisher who wants to support your authors with some social media training? This practical workshop includes setting up a WordPress blog and social networking accounts such as Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook pages. It has been run for clients such as HarperCollins, and as a Guardian Masterclass, providing authors with a valuable digital launchpad for their new books.
Managing Social Media
In-house only. This workshop is for in-house communications and marketing teams, and can be tailored to individual needs. It covers social media strategy, developing social media marketing plans, drafting policies and guidelines, managing the workload, and measuring results with analytics. It also looks at the most common social media tools, and best practice for using them strategically.

Frequently Asked Questions
What level are workshops pitched at?
See individual listings – but workshops are generaly introductory and assume no prior knowledge. However, you will get most out of workshops if you have experience of using a computer, and at least some familiarity with e.g. Facebook or Twitter – even if it’s just for personal use.
Where are workshops held?
All workshops take place in Central London, unless otherwise specified. They are often held at Avanta Media Village: 131-151 Great Titchfield Street, London W1W 5BB. Venues may occasionally change once booking has begun, to accomodate larger / smaller groups than anticipated. We will notify you of any venue changes by email.
What do I need to bring?
See individual course listings, but you will normally need to bring a wireless-enabled laptop to any workshops with a practical element. Free wi-fi is provided at training venues. Even for more theory-based courses, you may wish to bring a laptop or iPad to take notes or look at various websites discussed as we go along.
Bring a notebook and pen, and wear whatever you feel comfortable in.
Lunch is provided – as well as tea, coffee and water – but please let us know in advance of any allergies or dietary requirements.
What is your cancellation policy?
You can cancel 4 weeks or more before a workshop for a full refund. For cancellations of 1-4 weeks before a workshop, a charge of 50% of the course fee will apply unless we can re-fill the place or you can substitute a delegate. We cannot issue refunds for cancellations within 1 week of a workshop, and the full fee will apply. We reserve the right to cancel workshops at short notice if dates are under-subscribed, in which case you may opt for a full refund or a place on another workshop. Please check with us prior to making travel arrangements, unless we’ve confirmed the date by sending you a login to the workshop resource site.
